Legends tell of a great man with incredible talent who, along with skills such as riding sea creatures, had the power to call elements from dreams into reality, a power often frustrated by the mundane limitations of the real world. This man, driven to explore the limits of his sorcerous abilities, later became known as "Master Zhuangzi" and one of the co-founders of the Jixia Academy.

There once was a man who rode a fish and loved to dream, and his name was Zhuangzi.
In the world of dreams, nothing held Zhuangzi back. Sometimes he dreamed that he had turned into a butterfly—or that it was a butterfly who had turned into him. The butterfly fluttered its wings, triggering a reverberation that kicked up a storm upon the continent.
Sometimes he dreamed that he merged completely with the will of nature, no longer being bound by the rules of reality, his awareness becoming one with the heavens.
For as long as he could remember, everything Zhuangzi dreamed would eventually come to pass in reality—a rather uncommon and fantastic ability. One day, Zhuangzi dreamed that he transformed into a butterfly that glowed with a strange light. In waking life, naturally, people were frightened of him and dared not approach.
Then one day, Zhuangzi conjured up a vast otherworld but could find no place to put it. Zhuangzi finally realized that he no longer belonged in his hometown, so he set out from his home in search of a place where he could truly be accepted.
A sovereign got word of Zhuangzi's ability to transform dreams into reality and asked to hire his services. Though the reward was generous, Zhuangzi declined the invitation. He had no desire for his dreams to become some tribute intricately carved on an altar, nor a tool employed to fulfill a thirst for power, and even less so did Zhuangzi want to turn his fantastic ability into just a way to get rich. He only wanted to dream whatever he pleased, unfettered by the rules of the mortal world.
Eventually, Zhuangzi arrived at a place known as Jixia. There, he wandered the mountains and forests, admired the stars by night, and was finally able to dream his dreams to the fullest.
In one dream, he transformed into a gigantic bird and flew thousands of miles into the sky. From that great height, he could see world upon world floating in the sea of stars, each tiny as a grain of sand. They were born, glittered with brilliance for a brief moment, and then disappeared with a flash.
In his longer dreams, Zhuangzi traveled through time and space to distant lands and strange eras, glimpsing amazing sights: Veritable forests of buildings towering so high they seemed to scrape the sky; Curious carriages zipped between the buildings without any horses drawing them, while iron birds roared across the heavens, wings spread wide.
As Zhuangzi gained better control over his dreams, he began to use them to protect those around him. When danger appeared, he could conjure a dream field to shelter people and keep them safe from threats in reality.
His dreams set free, Zhuangzi had finally found a place where he truly belonged.
