Wang Zhaojun is a Mage hero in Honor of Kings.
Background[]
A princess from the Central Plains, Wang Zhaojun's incomparable beauty is offset by her sorrowful expression, a reflection of her homesickness for her lost hometown. She was sent to the Northlands under the guise of a diplomatic marriage, but was instead offered to the Ice Gods. Frozen in ice, she fell into a deep slumber. When she awoke, her hometown was no longer the same, and kneeling before her were the people of the Northlands seeking asylum. Though she's now the guardian of the Northlands with the ability to control the power of frost, the plum blossoms of her hometown continue to linger in her heart.
Lore[]
The Chonokh tribes once roamed the vast grasslands of the continent's northern reaches. There, they lived off the land, shepherding their livestock. Chonokh men and women alike served as fierce warriors, accompanied by packs of wolves.
As bitter cold invaded from the north froze the grasslands, the tribes were forced to migrate southward, launching attack after attack upon the Central Plains.
The nations of the Central Plains had been at war with one another, but when faced with the repeated attacks of the fierce warriors, their leaders had no choice but to present a united front and negotiate with the Chonokh. A temporary truce was reached at great cost in grain and cloth, and along with these gifts of peace came a Central Plains princess — Wang Zhaojun.
The Chonokh took the princess to their sacred place, the Winter Ocean, where they offered her up as a bride to their tribal deity. They believed that doing so would prompt the deity to descend upon the world and protect the tribes. Over time, this tradition had evolved into a sacred yet cruel ritual—and the princess' life was tribute.
Wang Zhaojun's body lay trapped in ice for years while the continent was embroiled in war. Several powerful nations arose from the ruins of war, and they no longer wished to honor the truce with the Chonokh. These nations made plans to exterminate the northern barbarians.
They hatched a savage plot: to attack the plains while the tribes were celebrating a wedding, a time when the Chonokh would be totally unprepared to defend themselves. The verdant grasslands were stained crimson that day. Later histories would record the event as the "Red Wedding."
Even so, the generals were not satisfied with the slaughter. They sought the treasures hidden away in the icy tundra, in the glacial resting place of the sacrificed brides where troves of valuables placed as offerings to the tribal deity lay frozen.
The butchers got exactly what they wanted. They cheered as they began hauling crates of gold back toward the Central Plains. But before they knew it, the sky turned dark and a blizzard descended out of nowhere, followed by a torrential avalanche.
Was this the wrath of the Chonokh deity?
The once-fearsome soldiers turned tail and fled, but their escape route was blocked by snow and ice. They could only wriggle like worms as ice coalesced around their bodies, sealing them within transparent tombs.
Night passed. The sky cleared, and the surviving Chonokh emerged from their hiding places. The tribesmen gathered around their icy goddess, the one who had tamed the Winter Ocean and had single-handedly protected the Northlands: Wang Zhaojun. Her frosty eyes held great sorrow as her slender fingers caressed the frozen and contorted faces of her homeland warriors.
"Have the plum trees in my hometown blossomed?"
