Gan & Mo is a Mage hero in Honor of Kings.
Background[]
Gan Jiang is a master swordsmith from the Misty Marshes with an unnatural obsession with swords and blades. His bed-ridden wife Mo Ye threw herself into the forge in a fit of insanity, sacrificing her life to grant him a divine blade. Gan Jiang was filled with regret, but it was too late, and he allowed the sorcery to corrupt him and make him one with the sword. With the two becoming one, the divine blade transformed into his wife's likeness, and now, Gan Jiang and Mo Ye will never be separated again.
Lore[]
A married couple, both poor artisans from the Riverlands, Gan Jiang and his wife, Mo Ye, had been childhood sweethearts and had always depended on each other for survival. Gan Jiang had no outstanding talents and was only interested in forging swords, but Mo Ye supported him without reservation.
Only knowing how to forge swords, Gan Jiang felt guilty. He had hoped to make a name for himself and give his wife a better life, so he visited swordsmiths all over the land, smashing up their countless masterpieces, and soon his name spread across the Misty Marshes. Of course, the swordsmiths he'd vandalized hated his guts.
There was only one master swordsmith in the world. People said the swords he forged were not only sharp, but also had a soul within them. Gan Jiang had attacked many of this master's disciples, and after they complained to him, the master decided to invite Gan Jiang for a visit. He wasn't just any master: He was truly the most outstanding swordsmith alive. But when Gan Jiang arrived, the master didn't show up. Instead, he ordered his disciples to greet Gan Jiang with swords, and so the master's swords clashed with Gan Jiang's. The artisan roared! They laughed at him, repaying him with double the humiliation he had dished out.
Gan Jiang fled with failure burning in his heart. He returned home and recommenced his dull life of forging. His furnace never stopped burning, and every sword was sharper than the last, but they were still lifeless pieces of iron. The difference between a dead sword and a living sword is as great as the difference between heaven and earth. Gan Jiang became obsessed with forging swords, completely forgetting his original purpose, so he was oblivious to the fact that his wife was growing weak and frail.
The man who called himself Eclipse summoned Gan Jiang and showed him a sword. Gan Jiang immediately recognized it as the work of the master swordsmith.
Eclipse told Gan Jiang that this was in fact a living sword with a soul residing inside it. It guarded the ancient Wonder known as the "Tree of Reincarnation," and anyone who came close to it would be torn to shreds. Eclipse wanted to reveal the secret art of crafting a living sword to Gan Jiang so that he could forge an even sharper sword that would defeat the one protecting the Wonder and release the Tree of Reincarnation.
"Help me get this Wonder, and you will obtain your heart's desire: to become the greatest swordsmith in the world," Eclipse said.
Goosebumps sprung up on Gan Jiang's body, but he couldn't believe what he heard next: "If you want a sword to have life, you must give it a life."
Eclipse gave him exquisite iron preserved since ancient times. The furnace burned for three days and three nights, but the iron just wouldn't melt. Gan Jiang's eyes were bloodshot as he wrestled with the thought in his head: To make a sword live, you must give it a life.
He was so focused that he didn't notice his wife silently approaching. She had received an anonymous letter, telling her how to fulfill Gan Jiang's desire. Her illness left her with little remaining time to live, so she decided to give her soul to the person she loved most dearly. Mo Ye gave Gan Jiang one last smile—and then leaped into the furnace.
The exquisite iron merged with Mo Ye's soul, and after a night of forging, Gan Jiang's greatest work was born. He held the sword to his chest and exclaimed his wife's name. His beloved wife and sword were now one.
Gan Jiang's divine blade severed the master's sword, and the power of the spell of reincarnation was released.
After giving up so much, he could finally surpass all the other swordsmiths in the world! Without wasting any time, he threw himself into that scorching power. It forged his flesh like a furnace, making it hard and sharp as steel.
He had fulfilled his ultimate dream and forged himself into a sword. He had given up everything to prove himself, but the master swordsmith had long since passed away. Gan Jiang's faith came crashing down around him, mutating into madness and despair. The Mo Ye sword he clutched to his chest transformed into the figure of his wife, who comforted him gently. Only she had ever understood and cared about him, and only she had remained by his side.
"Two souls, one body. One love, never-ending."
