History[]
A period of intense cold forced the Chonokh to migrate southward, leading them to repeatedly attack the Central Plains. Initially, the nations of the Central Plains were fractured by internal conflict. However, faced with the Chonokh threat, they united and negotiated a truce. This truce came at a significant cost, with the Central Plains nations paying tribute in grain and cloth. As part of the agreement, Princess Frost of the Central Plains was offered as a bride to the Chonokh's tribal deity at the sacred Winter Ocean.
The Chonokh believed that sacrificing a bride to their deity would ensure the deity's descent and protection of the tribes. This ritual, while considered sacred, was ultimately a cruel sacrifice. Princess Frost was encased in ice, a tribute to the deity. While her body remained frozen, the continent was engulfed in war, leading to the rise of several powerful new nations that eventually repudiated the truce with the Chonokh.
These new nations conspired to exterminate the Chonokh. They planned a devastating attack during a Chonokh wedding celebration, a time when the tribes would be unprepared for battle. This event became known as the "Red Wedding," a massacre that stained the grasslands crimson.
Not content with the slaughter, the invading forces sought the treasures believed to be hidden within the icy tundra, the burial site of the sacrificed brides. They plundered the frozen offerings, rejoicing as they carried away crates of gold. However, their greed unleashed a powerful blizzard and avalanche. The invaders, attempting to flee, found their path blocked by the rapidly forming ice. They were trapped and frozen alive, entombed in transparent ice.
The surviving Chonokh emerged to find their enemies frozen. It is believed that Princess Frost, entombed yet powerful, tamed the Winter Ocean and protected the Northlands. She looked upon the frozen faces of the invaders with sorrow and asked a poignant question about her homeland:
"Have the plum trees in my hometown blossomed?"
This final question highlights the tragedy and the loss suffered by all during this era.
