Honor of Kings Wiki

Bai Qi is a Tank hero in Honor of Kings.

Background[]

When the Blood Clan invaded, a boy named Bai Qi was injured while protecting the young sovereign of Yong. Though he was healed by a sage, he was warned not to touch the wound. But as Bai Qi grew older, he ignored the warning and fought on to protect Yong, ending up heavily injured once more. Finally, he put on a mask that would allow the wound to fester, and the power of the Blood Clan to thoroughly fuse with his body. He never took it off again. From that point on, he would be known only as the God of War—a hunched, decaying monster that would sweep across the battlefield with his scythe.

Lore[]

Bai Qi, a youth from the Southlands, was gifted to the royalty of Yong to serve as an experimental weapon. After they weathered a sudden crisis together, the once-hostile relationship between him and the young sovereign of Yong blossomed into a close friendship. The two grew up side by side. As the Blood Clan invasion overflowed the borders of the Southlands, they set off to Jixia together in search of wisdom. As they journeyed, however, they were ambushed by a Blood Clan regiment. Bai Qi wrested a weapon from the hand of the enemy leader and cut a path forward for their party, but was infected by the Blood Clan in the process. The sages at Jixia were able to treat his wound, but warned that the seal they placed over it should never be broken. Otherwise, there would be no saving Bai Qi. After the two friends returned from Jixia, Yong launched an assault on the Blood Clan. Bai Qi fought without abandon. While Yong was eventually able to drive off the Blood Clan, it came at a cost—the seal over Bai Qi's wound had been broken. As the power of the Blood Clan burst forth once more, his wound festered, and Bai Qi was haunted by bloody nightmares. To save his original nature, the sovereign of Yong removed Bai Qi's mask and forced him to endure the light of the sun. With great pain, Bai Qi struggled through the most difficult days. However, he thought of how the new Yong was lacking in strength, but steadfast and hungry for justice—just like himself. He needed to become more powerful if he were to protect the nation. Thus, Bai Qi donned his mask once more, allowing himself to be infused with the power of the Blood Clan. He accepted this corruption, for one purpose alone—to gain power none could stand against.

Monster[]

The cage bound for the Southlands was packed and ready to go. Its cargo? The so-called experimental weapon, Bai Qi, tied up securely with adhesive fabric. He struggled to break free of his bindings, but in vain. It was then he noticed the blonde-haired "monster" also thrashing about in the dark corner opposite him. "This must be that monster's doing," Bai Qi conjectured to himself. "And it accidentally trapped itself in the process." This was the first time he and the young sovereign had met. As they journeyed, the blonde monster became Bai Qi's sworn enemy. It seemed like it had committed itself to creating trouble for him. When Bai Qi slept, it practiced with its sword; when Bai Qi ate, it snuck rocks into his food. The little beast was always flitting about in front of him, even going so far as to yell at him. Finally, after some struggle, Bai Qi freed himself of the adhesive fabric and ran at the little beast, hurling a balled-up fist in its direction. The monster dodged nimbly, and planted its foot in Bai Qi's chest, holding him out of arm's reach. After a bit more roughhousing, Bai Qi was forced to concede that the monster was lucky. Either that, or it was true what the Southlands people always said: The monsters of Yong were crafty, but pitiful. They couldn't hunt, couldn't farm the wastelands, and had no trust in each other. The only thing they were good at was surviving in their little corner of the world. A sudden jolt of the cage threw Bai Qi back into his corner, where he became entangled once more in the adhesive fabric. The two boys locked eyes, fuming. The cage trundled its way into the desert. The captives within had no idea how long they'd been traveling. However, through countless struggles and scuffles over the indeterminate time that passed, each became the other's first and only friend.

Starry Night[]

The young sovereign's world had been filled with nothing but gold—gold was the color of authority, so it was the only one that mattered. One after the other, he told Bai Qi tales of majesty and heroism from Chang'an, Alsahraa, and Celestia. As he told them, it was like the majesty and heroism belonged to him as well. For the most part, Bai Qi sat and silently listened, sometimes interjecting with stories from the Southlands, as well as stories of the "red" and "black" he'd seen in his own life. Their peaceful days together soon came to an end. As the Blood Clan invasion spilled over the Southlands borders, the two set off for Jixia to seek wisdom from the sages. While en route, however, they were ambushed by a Blood Clan regiment. The young sovereign summoned his Thousand Blades, which fell upon the enemy in a shower of gold. Meanwhile, Bai Qi rushed into battle, seizing one of the enemy's weapons and using it to cut a path forward for their party. He'd saved the sovereign, but at a cost—he'd been infected by the Blood Clan's power. The sages at Jixia were able to provide a temporary treatment, but warned that Bai Qi must never allow the seal covering the wound to be broken. Otherwise, there would be no way to treat it again. The experience changed the young sovereign's life forever. He realized that gold wasn't the only important color. The world didn't revolve around humanity, nor did other creatures. Humans had a duty to understand and care for others.

Given[]

The final battle with the Blood Clan took place in a rulerless city. For the sake of the young sovereign, Bai Qi singlehandedly wrested back control of the city, wiping out every single Blood Clan member within and driving the rest to a total retreat. He had won the battle, but it seemed with his victory came a change in his fortunes. In the course of the skirmish, he'd been sliced across the face. Now, his old wound was leaking a strange energy. Bai Qi started wearing a mask, hoping to hide the injury from those around him. Covered though it was, corruption from the wound continued to spread as the years went by, distorting his face into something completely unrecognizable. Those around him, however, saw only a rabid warrior on the battlefield, cloaked in ferocious energy. Every time he swung his giant scythe, massive teeth like tusks sprang up from the ground, hooking his enemies and throwing them before his feet. Only he knew the true consequences of the battle he'd fought that day for his friend—a nightmare from which he could never awaken. From that time forward, the world knew the corrupted, yet formidable monster Bai Qi as the "God of War."
